In pursuit of supporting local talents and startups in Region XI, the Department of Information and Communication Technology- Mindanao Cluster 3, hosted a series of workshops on Data Privacy and Cyber Security on March 26, April 6, and 17, 2021, to the founders of Alcadia Systems, one of the incubated startups of the University of the Philippines Mindanao Growing and Developing Enterprises (UPGRADE). DICT Mindanao Cluster 3 mentor, Mr. Raul Vincent Lumapas, Chair of Ateneo de Davao University (ADDU) Information Technology Department, facilitated the said activity.
During the first session of the workshop series, Mr. Lumapas gave a substantial discussion on Cybersecurity and RA 10175, “Cybercrime Prevention Act of 2012″”. The session’s highlight was the interpretation of the Personal Data Breach Agreement, Data Sharing Agreements involving government agencies, and Compliance with DICT and the National Privacy Commission. Specific topics concerning Securities and Exchange COmmissions – OGC Opinion No. 18-21 was also emphasized during the lecture.
In the second session, Mr. Lumapas talked through the topic entitled “Data Privacy: Government, Industry and You,” which mainly discussed the Data Privacy of 2012 and its principles, Safeguarding Data Privacy, and Security of Sensitive Personal Information in Government. The mentor also gave essential tips on the “30 Ways to Love Yourself Online” to the Alcadia Systems founders.
Wrapping up the workshop, the participants had an open forum with Mr. Lumapas. They raised their questions and consulted on their recent progress in complying with the Data Privacy and Cybersecurity laws in developing their mobile app, Hayahay!.
