FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: JUNE 20, 2022
The Philippine Council for Industry, Energy and Emerging Technology Research and Development (PCIEERD) launches the second and last run of the preparatory training program for starting University-based technology business incubators (TBIs) through UP Growing and Developing Enterprises (UPGRADE) of the University of the Philippines – Mindanao.
Davao City, Philippines – On June 23, 2022 (Thursday), the DOST HEI Readiness for Innovation and Technopreneurship (HEIRIT) 2.0 program launches at World Palace, Davao City. The program welcomes (40) forty select universities proposing to establish a TBI on campus. TBI teams from participating universities also begin their first training session.
The press conference will take place at 11:00AM.
The program under the project title, Handholding Starting Incubators from HEIs for Readiness towards Innovation and Technopreneurship Preparatory and Skills Acceleration for TBI Managers Optimizing Regional Startup Ecosystem (HIHEIRIT PA MORE!), is a two-year structured and immersive capacity-building program designed to guide universities proposing to establish and run their own DOST-affiliated TBIs with the objective to serve early stage startups in their region. The program also provides support for universities in meeting the requirements of the Council’s TBI funding.
The kick off event gathers future TBI Management teams, partners, training providers, and other important stakeholders supporting the program. Meanwhile, the workshop scheduled on the second day of this two-day event will be attended by the TBI representatives from select universities around the country. The participating universities were carefully selected and grouped into two tracks by the Council’s technical panel. Track-1 consisting of (27) twenty-seven universities are eligible for PCIEERD’s funding; and Track-2 consisting of (13) thirteen universities will be endorsed to PCAARDD after the one year training.
The program will be implemented by UP Growing and Developing Enterprises (UPGRADE) Innolab in collaboration with UPSCALE Innovation Hub and in partnership with De La Salle University AnimoLabs Foundation, E3Hubs (Malaysia), and IISLA Ventures (London, UK).
